Hi all, I am stumped on a problem with family friends machine--when she boots up the machine Intel-based Dell Inspiron Desktop into Vista Home Premium SP2, she gets an error message "Stack overflow at line 0" Now, when I looked up this error code it appeared to be mainly in conjunction with Internet Explorer, however, it is reported that she recieves this message even before IE has been opened on a fresh boot namely when Outlook is opened first.

As such, I am hesitant to blame IE. I have also seen previous solutions pertaining to Outlook Express, but no joy for this situation. When I made a visit last week, I was unable to recreate this error no matter what I did. Rebooted several times, opened Oulook, IE, other way around, etc. Any insight would be great Join our community to see this answer! Unlock 1 Answer and 5 Comments.

I've found that it is one of few ways to diagnose some of those IE specific issues. Mitchel Sellers Mitchel Sellers Thanks, that was my problem too. CDev CDev 21 1 1 bronze badge. I set up a default project and found out the following: The problem is the combination of smartNavigation and maintainScrollPositionOnPostBack.

My users suddenly started receiving this error after I added these attributes to the pages tag, but only when using IE, so I did not experience the problem myself. Not having any clue to link the two together, I was completely lost for a solution until I found this answer.

Like most of the examples here, this is almost certainly a recursive loop- if your propertychange event changes a property of the element, it would trigger itself again, causing exactly this type of exception. The cause of the error is typically an unterminated loop or recursive call that just overloads the Javascript engine, but that can happen in a whole lot of different ways.
